Speed Events Start Time Moved to 5:00 pm

Beginning with the March show, LCHA's speed events will now begin at 5:00 pm. This change hopes to allow for better planning and less waiting for the competitors arriving at the arena just for speed.

LCHA Cowboy Fun Show—January 23, 2010 • 10:00 am

Come on down to the LCHA arena and test your skills and coordination with your equine partner. Check out this flyer for additional information.

Competition events include:

• Pick up a ribbon-covered ring using a pole
• Use a rope to drag a log around the arena
• Toss a tennis ball in a bucket on top of a barrel as you ride by, without stopping
• Phone book page race (must be able to mount/dismount without aid)
• Egg and spoon race
• Place 6 tennis balls on top of a 1" PVC pipe
• Rope a steer head from horseback (3 tries)
• Ribbon race (done in pairs)
• Ride horse with a dollar bill placed between knee and saddle
• Broom polo
• Simon Says (through trail-type obstacles including bridge, tarp, trotting over poles)
• Rocking Horse (cross a bridge with pipe under the center to make it rock as horse crosses)

Note: Some events may require more advanced horsemanship. While there is a flat fee to ride all day, participants are not required to show in each class to be eligible for the final award. Points will be given for 1st–6th place, and totaled at the end of the day. The rider with the most points will win $100.00 worth of prizes!

2009 LCHA High Point Awards Banquet Held January 2010

Join us as we honor the accomplishments of LCHA members during the 2009 show season. This event brings the close of the 2009 show year.

Saturday, January 16, 2010 • 6:00 pm (Dinner will be served at 7:00 pm)

The cost will be $5.00 for individuals and $10.00 per family. Those attending are asked to bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert (and beverage, if they want something other than tea).

Intercollegiate Horse Show Hosted by FSU to Take Place at LCHA Arena February 2010

LCHA is thrilled to announce that the IHSA show hosted by Florida State University's Equestrian team will be held at the LCHA Arena on February 7, 2010. Please visit the IHSA website for additional information on this Association.

October 2009 LCHA Open Show Honors Those Affected by Breast Cancer

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will be having PINK themed events at our October show. Please bring pink deserts, candy, etc and incorporate PINK into you and your horses' show day attire to support those who have been affected by breast cancer. LCHA Honors Doyle Conner, Sr. and Dave Jones as "Horsemen of Distinction"

Leon County Horsemen's Association will be honoring former Florida Department of Agriculture Commissioner and loyal 4-H supporter Doyle Conner, Sr. and Trainer/Author Dave Jones on Saturday, September 12, 2009 for their contributions to the equestrian community.

They will be honored during the English/Western break at our Open Horse Show on that date. Both of these men have been giants in the horse industry here in Florida and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to honor them.
